How did your organisation deliver social value?
Our Active Lifestyles Team provide a range of physical activity programmes to people who have been diagnosed with various long term health conditions. Kellie was one client who recently completed her journey with the team and in the process won the Salford Sports Awards, ‘Changing Lifestyles Award’.
Kellie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and following her surgery she joined the Active Lifestyles programme to help her overcome the fatigue she was experiencing as a result of the chemotherapy . Kellie also suffered with depression and feelings of isolation as a result of spending time at home and so joining the programme not only helped get Kellie active it also gave her a reason to get out the house and meet new friends.
After 10 weeks on the activity programme Kellie was exercising regularly, napping less and had become a ‘buddy’ to new starters on the programme. The programme had a a positive impact on her life and contributed to her realising her ambition of becoming a paramedic.
Each year the Active Lifestyles team support 1,000’s of people improve their health and wellbeing through exercise. Over 90% of participants report being more active and 86% report an improvement in wellbeing as a result of being involved in the programme.
