Carbon Creative and Salford Social Value team up for a litter pick around Eccles

How did your organisation deliver social value?

At Carbon Creative, we believe in sustainable and ethical business and are passionate about making a positive impact on our local communities. We are fully committed to helping reduce the amount of litter around Salford and Greater Manchester, raising awareness about the problems it can cause. We help make our local streets cleaner for people to enjoy by organising litter picks and encouraging others to get involved.

We are proud to be a core member of the Salford Social Value Alliance, who champion the importance and difference that socially responsible actions can make to the local people of Salford. The Alliance are passionate about keeping our neighbourhoods clean and tidy, making a better place for everyone to live and work in. Working as an Alliance we can make an even greater impact!

Kicking off the Great British Spring Clean 2019 with Salford Social Value!

Every year, here at Carbon Creative, we take part in The Great British Spring Clean, a nationwide campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy. This is a national drive to help local communities come together to improve the environment on their doorsteps. This year it was taking place between 22 March – 23 April and we set out to do as many litter picks as possible across the month. We kickstarted the campaign in Eccles with our Alliance friends from Salford CVS!

On the day, we gathered at Alliance HQ in Eccles to meet the rest of the litter picking team. Volunteers included Keepmoat Homes, and Select Interiors. Even staff from the local Wilkinson’s, the headline sponsor for the Great British Spring Clean, had come along showing their support! So many people had turned up, once we were equipped with our litter picking kit we split into teams to go on separate routes, to help tackle as much litter as possible.

The Carbon team started around the Morrisons petrol station and roundabouts, collecting plenty of plastic wrappers, retail packaging and even car alloys! You never know what you will find when you’re out litter picking. We made our way towards West One Retail Park, unfortunately a haven for fast food litter. We quickly filled our bags, even the extra ones we’d taken were full to the brim! Half the team went back to replenish the bags and the rest of us soldiered on, picking up as much litter as we could.

We continued through the town centre and all met back at the Alliance HQ. It was incredible to see how much litter had been collected by all the teams in just a few hours. Over 50 bags piled up and ready to be taken away by Salford City Council. We all went inside to tuck into refreshments, kindly donated by the local Morrisons. It was a great afternoon and it made a big impact in helping keep Eccles tidy. We hope our work has raised awareness around the local area and has encouraged more people to give up a little bit of their time to join in with a litter pick near them.

Throughout the rest of the month long Keep Britain Tidy campaign, staff volunteers at Carbon continued their litter picking adventures at MediaCityUK, Ordsall, Monton and Coronet Way.
