Salford City Council pledge to tackle poverty and play our part in improving the following by 10% in our city by:
Volunteering: We will develop an employee volunteering programme to support the workforce to undertake voluntary activity in the local community by 31st August 2018
Children and young people (NEET): We will recruit 10% more young people aged 16-24 into apprenticeship opportunities within the Council (target increase from 25 to 28 young people)
Wellbeing: We will engage 10% more families with children aged 0-18 in Health Improvement Service community activities (target of 100 families per year will increase this to 110)
Reducing waste: We will reduce the energy use across council facilities – seeking a 10% reduction in energy consumption (electricity and gas combined) across all council facilities by December 2019 (saving of 3,441,720kWh or 940 tonnes of carbon)
Recycling: We will increase recycling by: a. increasing the recycling rate by 10% of the waste generated within SCC buildings and offices. b. supporting schools to increase food waste recycling by 10% from the waste they generate within their kitchens
Green travel: We will enable a 10% increase in the number of miles undertaken by cars in the Green Wheels Car Club by 31st August 2018
Parks and open space: Increase use of Parks & Open Spaces by: a. increasing the number / membership of Parks Friends Groups by 10% (from 30 to 33 by 2021) b. increasing the number of people attending events held on our City’s Parks & Open Spaces by 10%.
Living Wage: We will encourage a 10% increase in the number of accredited Living Wage Employers in our supply chain by 31st March 2019
Opportunities for training and employment: We will work with Stonewall as part of our commitment to be an inclusive employer, undertaking a number of actions to support diversity in our workforce
Fuel poverty: Target around Fuel Poverty – a 10% increase in the number of referrals received by the Affordable Warmth Referral Network.
Purchasing from Salford companies: We will work to enable a 10% increase in the value of purchasing from organisations based in Salford by 31st March 2019
